Consumption of Mammal Animals in Malaysia: A Study of Halal and Haram Principles
Animals are one of the sources of food for humans. By making the
animal as one of the source of foods, it can provide the energy and nutrients
needed by the human body to move actively. As we know, there are various
species of animals living in Malaysia and mammals are a part of it. However,
some of these mammals are halal and eatable and some of them are haram and
cannot be eaten. And there are also some other animals that are not known
whether their status is halal or haram.
According to Halal and Haram principles in Islam, it has been analysed and clearly explained and full of wisdom based on the Quran and Sunnah as the main source. According to one of fiqh method, which is al-Ibahah al-Asliyyah that means every matter is allowed or halal and useful as long as there is no dalil that prohibits it. In fact, Allah SWT ordered us to eat whatever that has given because it is halal and permissible. Therefore, every animal that have created, especially mammal animals, is permissible for mankind and makes it as one of the sources of food.
Besides, the mandatory order of slaughtering for halal status animals clearly stated by Allah SWT in the Quran. One of the requirements for the slaughtering is by mentioning the name of Allah SWT while slaughtering as a symbolic that the animal was slaughtered with the consent of Allah SWT as the God who created every animal.
However, the Muslims are prohibited at all to eat mammal animals if there is a special prohibition either from the Quran or Sunnah. The prohibition includes several things and some features:

- Wild mammals with fangs.
- Disgusting, poisonous and harmful mammals.
- Animals are mammals that consume impure things.
- Animals from crossbreeding of both halal and haram animals such as donkeys.
- Mammals that are not slaughtered by mentioning God's name.
